Assembly Member for Cardiff Central and Chair of the Welsh Changing Places Steering Group, Jenny Randerson yesterday opened a brand new facility at Oakwood Theme Park.

Changing Places facilities offer the same facilities as a normal public toilet but include a changing bench and hoist suitable for adults with disabilities as well as room for wheelchair.

Speaking after cutting the ribbon at Oakwood, Jenny Randerson AM said:

“I was delighted to travel to Oakwood to take part in this event. Changing places mean that many people who would otherwise be forced to stay at home are able to get out and about and take part in activities that the rest of us take for granted.

“I hope that other facilities, both private and public, follow the lead of Oakwood and invest in these hugely important facilities.”

Liz Neal Director of Mencap Cymru said: “Mencap Cymru is pleased that it’s campaigning on changing places has led the Government in Wales to take seriously the needs of people with profound and multiple learning disabilities.

“It was especially powerful hearing the stories of families attending the launch at Oakwood on Sunday who welcomed the new addition to Oakwood Theme Park”
