Gareth Thomas heads Time Out’s Pride Power List
Gareth Thomas has been named as the number one personality in TimeOut’s Pride Power List of 2011. Former captain of the Wales rugby union team, and Cardiff Blues favourite Thomas came out two years ago in the Daily Mail revealing: ‘What I choose to do when I close the door at home has nothing to do with what I have achieved in rugby.’ He received Stonewall’s Hero of the Year award in 2010. He now plays for Super League side the Crusaders.
The list, which contains such luminaries as Elton John, Russell T Davies, and Gok Wan, recognises the contribution gay people have made to Britain, and also honours Cardiff City Council leader Rodney Berman who appears at number 71. Berman entered into a civil partnership with his partner, ITV news journalist Nick Speed, in August 2006.
