Incey Wincy Spider, Little Miss Muffet even Wee Willie Winkie will be out in force this October in celebration of National Bookstart Day 2009 as the theme this year is “My Favourite Rhyme”.

Bookstart has launched a nationwide search to find the nation’s favourite rhyme with Friday 9 October being the day that the nation’s favourite will be announced! Will Little Miss Muffet be successful in her battle with Old Mother Hubbard? Can Incy Wincy climb up to poll position?

Over 4,000 special Nursery Rhyme story/rhymetimes will be taking place across the UK in celebration of National Bookstart Day with in Cardiff, parents or carers with under 5s being able to come along to the following special events:

  • Thurs 8 Oct 10-11am Ely Library
  • Thurs 8 Oct 2.30-3pm Rhydypennau Library
  • Friday 9 Oct 10.30-11.30am Whitchurch Library
  • Friday 9 Oct 10-11am Roath Library
  • Friday 9 Oct 10.30-11.30am Penylan Library
  • Tuesday 13 Oct 10.30-11am Whitchurch Library
  • Wed 14 Oct 10.30-11am Central Children’s Library
  • Wed 14 Oct 2.15-2.45pm Rhiwbina Library
  • Thurs 15 Oct 10.30-11am Rumney Library
  • Thurs 15 Oct 10-11am Llandaff North
  • Thursday 15 Oct 10.30-11am Cardiff Central Children’s Library

Cardiff Bookstart is also running its very own Bookstart Bear Nursery Rhyme Competition in which under 5s and their parents/carers have to guess the nursery rhyme shown by Bookstart Bear in various photos. The competition runs until Fri 23 October and forms are available from all Cardiff Libraries with books and Bookstart Teddies to be won as prizes!

Bookstart aims to help every child in the UK develop a lifelong love of books and this year’s programme will offer millions of children and parents/carers the chance to discover the joy of reading together. Don’t miss out on the fun of sharing your favourite nursery rhyme and song this autumn!
