ALEX JONES TO MEET HER DAFFODIL AT RHS SHOW CARDIFF

Alex Jones DaffodilBBC One Show presenter Alex Jones will be at the RHS Show in Cardiff over the weekend of April 20-22 (www.rhs.org.uk/cardiff) to see her own Alex Jones Daffodil on display.

The popular Welsh TV star was given a lovely surprise on the live show when champion grower Ron Scamp came into the studio to present her with her own flower.

Alex follows in the footsteps of Kathryn Jenkins and the ‘Duffydil’ by having a Daffodil named after her.

The beautiful pale white and pink flower is unusual for a Daffodil, and is being grown by Ron’s company Quality Daffodils, which has won the Best Floral Exhibitor at the Cardiff spring show for the past six consecutive years.

Ron is looking forward to welcoming Alex to his stand at the show, and he will be taking orders for the bulbs, so that people can see ‘Alex Jones’ bloom in their gardens or on their windowsills next spring.

Over the years the Royal Horticultural Society has honoured a number of individuals by naming a flower after them, and Alex is in illustrious company, joining Lady Diana and Maria Callas in saying it with flowers. The Kathryn Jenkins Daffodil and the ‘Duffydil’ have been on sale at previous Cardiff RHS shows.

The Daffodil is the national emblem of Wales, and the icon for the Cardiff show, which will attract some 25,000 people to the splendid parklands of Cardiff Castle for an event that features beautiful blooms from nurseries across the country, show gardens from leading Welsh talent, and advice and inspiration for the gardening season ahead.

Ron Scamp said: “The Alex Jones Daffodil is a lovely, delicate flower, like its namesake. I think it will prove popular amongst visitors to the Cardiff show and fans of Alex, and proceeds from sales will go towards BBC charities.” The bulbs can be ordered from www.qualitydaffodils.com
